CDU defense expert calls for increased NATO support for Ukraine
Kiesewetter (CDU): NATO states have to support Ukraine more
The CDU defense expert Roderich Kiesewetter has demanded increased financial support for Ukraine from the NATO countries. This is necessary to end the war and to offer Ukraine a perspective in the EU and NATO. In an interview with the RBB24 Inforadio, Kiesewetter expressed his concern about the previously promised 40 billion euros a year, which he described as inadequate. He emphasized that more money and faster help were necessary to strengthen Ukraine and to contain the aggression of Russia.
In terms of financial support, Kiesewetter said that in the context of international law it was important not only to say that the support is as long as necessary, but that it is done as quickly and extensively as possible. He emphasized the importance of a joint effort of the NATO countries not only to boost the armaments industry and increase production, but also to clarify the population about the war goal of Russia. This is to strive for the dissolution of Ukraine and to carry out further operations against Moldova and the Baltic States.
Kiesewetter also criticized the amp coalition budget plans for the military budget. He pointed out that Boris Pistorius had received six billion euros less this year than desired and that five billion euros less than necessary for the next year. He also called for a implementation of the turn of the times announced by Chancellor Merkel in the Bundeswehr.
These demands for increased support for Ukraine illustrate the increasing concern about the ongoing aggression in Russia and the desire of the NATO countries to support Ukraine and to counter the Russian sphere of influence. The financial support and strengthening of the Ukrainian armed forces are crucial to restore peace in the region and prevent further annexions. The demands of gravel weather show the need for a common and determined action of all NATO countries.
The situation in Ukraine has an impact on the country itself, but also on all European security. Strengthening Ukraine and a clear positioning of Russia are essential to ensure the sovereignty and independence of countries in the region. The decision of the NATO states to support Ukraine financially and to strive for their membership in the EU and NATO sends a strong signal to Russia and strengthens the position of Ukraine in conflict.
It remains to be seen whether the NATO countries will meet the demands of gravel weather and increase their financial support for Ukraine. The political and security policy situation in the region requires a decisive response from the international community to restore peace and stability.
