CDU/CSU politician calls for the abolition of individual law to asylum: EU should resume those in need of protection directly from abroad

CDU/CSU parliamentary group leader Thorsten Frei criticizes the current individual law on asylum as inhuman in a guest contribution for the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung". According to his calculations, 35 million Afghans would theoretically have the right to apply for asylum in Germany. Instead, he proposes a new EU regulation, according to which only applications for European soil should be possible. However, he describes these selection criteria as "deeply inhuman", since people who are too old, too weak, too poor or too sick would be without a chance.

freely suggests that the EU absorbs a contingent of 300,000 to 400,000 people in need of protection every year and distributes them to the 27 Member States. The individual law on asylum should be replaced by a so -called "institute guarantee". This measure is intended to minimize security risks and maximize the chances of integration. In addition, recipients of social benefits are to be excluded.

A comprehensive asylum reform is currently being discussed in the EU, although unity must still be achieved on the exact measures. Various tightening are planned to contain illegal migration, especially from countries that are considered relatively safe. People who have little prospect of asylum should already be checked at the EU external borders and may be sent back.
