Cannabis cake in Spandau: Students faint after enjoying it!

The Berlin public prosecutor's office has brought charges against a 28-year-old aspiring nurse who is being held responsible for negligent bodily harm. This incident occurred in November 2024 at the Evangelisches Johannesstift in Berlin-Spandau, and the announcement of the indictment took place on Thursday, September 25, 2025, as rbb24 reported.

The defendant had processed two grams of cannabis into pastries and left them unattended in the kitchen of a community center. Ten classmates unknowingly consumed this pastry and reported health problems such as dizziness, nausea, hallucinations and cardiac arrhythmias. Some students even fainted, leading to the fire department and police being called. The defendant explained that he had mistakenly made the pastries for a private party.

Health consequences of cannabis

Long-term use of cannabis can pose health and social risks. The respiratory tract can be damaged by smoking tobacco, and the risk of addiction increases, especially with long-term consumption. As gesundheit.gv.at shows, the effects of cannabis can vary greatly and are not always predictable. The physical consequences include impairments in concentration and learning ability, as well as an increased risk of lung cancer.

Psychological problems, such as listlessness and social withdrawal, are also common side effects of intensive consumption. Young people are particularly affected, as lower levels of education and dissatisfaction with life are often associated with increased consumption. Psychosis can also be a result of high THC consumption, which led to serious health problems in some of the affected students.

The unpredictability of cannabis effects

The effect of cannabis depends not only on the THC content and the form of consumption, but also on the daily mood and the environment of the consumer, as AOK explains. Positive feelings such as euphoria and calmness can be enhanced by cannabis, while negative effects such as anxiety and cognitive disturbances can also occur. In this case, the negative effects of the unwanted consumption of cannabis pastries were particularly evident.

The police investigation into the case of the accused nurse began on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, but the defendant is now being held responsible for his actions in the Tiergarten district court. His school contract was terminated, which put an end to his professional training.
