Cannabis in Berlin: New Ordinance starts in November!
Berlin, Deutschland - Berlin has finally passed the long-awaited cannabis regulation, which will come into force from the beginning of November. This crucial regulation stipulates that the State Office for Health and Social Affairs (Lageso) will in future issue the permits for cannabis cultivation associations. In addition, a comprehensive catalog of fines was created that affects both the cultivation associations and consumers. A maximum of 500 members per cultivation association may be organized in the capital, and there will be a strict framework for the possession and consumption of cannabis, for example with fines between 250 and 1,000 euros for smoking near schools and daycare centers.
Despite the new regulations, the rush to cultivation associations in Berlin remains. Currently there is only one approved cultivation association and only 23 applications from ten districts. This could lead to an unequal distribution in different parts of the city, while some zones hardly show any interest. The requirements for security concepts and distance regulations on social institutions also present many potential associations with challenges, which means that some shift their acreage to near Brandenburg.
