Bundestag election of 2021 in Berlin could be repeated

The Federal Constitutional Court will advise on Tuesday to advise whether the Bundestag election of 2021 in Berlin must be repeated. Germany's top judge will come together in the meeting room in Karlsruhe to negotiate the "election examination complaint of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the German Bundestag against the decision of the German Bundestag of November 10, 2022".

The CDU and CSU complain against the decision of the parliament, in which the election in 431 electoral districts should be repeated. The Union believes that this is far too little in view of the numerous breakdowns in the choice. It demands a repetition in at least 1200 electoral districts. The AfD shares this view, since the same mistakes were made in the Bundestag election as in the elections to the House of Representatives and the district parliaments.

The Federal Constitutional Court could theoretically completely reject the repetition of the election, but that is unlikely. The constitutional judges are expected to choose between partial or a complete repetition.

The oral hearing takes place today and tomorrow, and a decision is expected in September. This has the reason that constitutional judge Peter Müller leaves his office a little later and still wants to participate in this important judgment, as experts suspect. If the judgment is actually made in September, a new election could take place in October or November because there is a 60-day period.

The traffic light government is not influenced by a possible judgment of the Federal Constitutional Court, since the distance to the other parties is too great. However, there is the possibility that Die Linke will lose its parliamentary group status because it won only three direct mandates in 2021. If you lose one of them, all other MPs lose their seat (except the two remaining direct mandates).

In the event of a partial repetition of the election, the left expect costs of 300,000 euros, with a complete repetition even 800,000 euros. A large part of this costs would flow to Lichtenberg, since Gesine Lötzsch's mandate is considered to be very endangered and should be defended with all strength. According to its own statements, the FDP does not yet have a planning, while the state associations of the CDU and SPD have not responded to inquiries from BILD.

The district offices have already been informed about the planning of a repeat selection and the polling stations have already been determined, including in libraries. This means that in the event of an election, employees from the citizens' offices would have to be deducted again.
