petition for a fair peace in Gaza: A call to stop violence

On Thursday, various NGOs and local initiatives started a petition that campaigns for a fair peace in Gaza. Under the title "For a just peace in Gaza. Stop arms exports & end auxiliary blockade!" Ask the Federal Government not to export arms to Israel if there is a risk that they will be used in violation

The petition is a civil society protest against the intention of the federal government to continue to deliver weapons to Israel despite documented violations of international law. It makes eight clear demands on the federal government to fundamentally change its political reaction to the war in Gaza.

The petition was published on the OpenPetition platform and can be viewed and signed under the following link:

"to deliver instead of weapons and thus further heat up the violence, the federal government should do everything to de -escalate. It has to work towards the Israeli government with all means that in Gaza there is an armistice. Violence in West Bank has to be stopped and the illegal crew has to be stopped," said Gerold König, Federal Chairman of Pax Christi.

TSAFRIR Cohen, Managing Director of the Frankfurt Auxiliary and Human Rights Organization Medico International, criticizes the federal government for trying to prevent Israeli war crimes against the International Criminal Court: "It is not only increasingly losing credibility worldwide, but also hiking international jurisdiction and also promotes culture."

Serap Altiisik, CEO of OXFAM Deutschland e.V., emphasizes the disastrous humanitarian situation in Gaza: “People in Gaza suffer from permanent bombing and long -term blockade. Over half a million people have to deal with catastrophic food lack. Minimum that is required in emergency situations.

dr. med. Angelika Clauss, chair of the medical peace organization IPPNW, demands that the rescue of human life must have a top priority for the federal government: "In Gaza, human rights are violated every day. 40,000 people have already been dealt with directly through attacks by the Israeli military. However, the number of dead is many times higher.

The petition was initiated by seven organizations, including Care Deutschland e.V., IPPNW Germany, Medico International, NRC Refugee Aid Germany, Oxfam Germany e.V., Pax Christi Deutsche Section and World Peace Service e.V. It is supported by numerous other organizations.

The petition is an opportunity to draw attention to the urgent need to make a fair peace in Gaza and to persuade the federal government to change its policy. With broad support from civil society, the pressure can be built up to find a political solution and prevent further acts of violence.
