A real flower frenzy in Germany! 45 groups harvested the '> Germany! planting competition 2024!
The Foundation for People and the Environment honored the radiant winners of their plant competition on Saturday in the impressive “Gardens of the World”. Over 100 guests came together to enjoy the successes and to receive certificates and prizes. An impressive result: A total of 392 contributions from different categories sprinted at the top! From families to school classes to committed companies - from flying insects and colorful flower areas, over 28 hectares could be registered!

State Secretary for Climate Protection and Environment in Berlin, Britta Behrendt, and the district mayor of Marzahn-Hellersdorf, Nadja Zivkovic, praised the unprecedented use of the participants for biodiversity. "Every year I am overwhelmed by the many wonderful planting campaigns," beamed Julia Sander, the head of the competition, and added: "Very different groups are involved - from the daycare center to the company boss, from private garden to the cemetery. Almost every doorstep can be found potential for lively gardens!"
The event was not only characterized by the solemn atmosphere, but also set important impulses for the clarification. Participants were asked to share their knowledge of nature -related gardening with the public in order to promote acceptance and enthusiasm for flowering diversity - a necessary step, given the alarming decline in insects.

The school and youth club gardens were again the hard-working participants with impressive 94 contributions this year, followed by daycare gardens with 72 and small private gardens with 45 contributions. There was special support from the herbal kids campaign, which issued 150 free herbal packages to the groups.
The more than 9,000 committed enthusiasts from all over Germany have created around 28 hectares of flowering areas - a real festival for wild bees and Co.! Thanks to financial support from Ricola Deutschland GmbH, Breitsamer + Ulrich GmbH & Co. KG, and many others remain the concern of the foundation alive and flowering.
Background of this great initiative? According to the Federal Office for Nature Conservation, a quarter of the types of insects in Germany are at risk. Over 48% of the bee species are already considered to be at risk of existence or even extinct! An alarming signal for our ecosystem that affects many animals and plants - and ultimately ourselves!
