International conference in Teltow: Together against the grandchildren!
At an international conference in Teltow, Brandenburg, specialists from public prosecutors and police services from all over Europe meet from June 11th to 13th to exchange effective strategies for unscrupulous grandchildren. Experts from 16 federal states as well as from Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, Great Britain and Serbia come together in order to bring light into the dark of the cross -border property crime. As part of the EU-funded ISF Lumen project, the entire expertise is mobilized in order to methodically act against this perfidious fraud.
The grandchildren, in which fraudsters pretend to be relatives, has devastating effects on mostly older victims: many lose their entire savings and suffer from the psychological consequences of crooks. In North Rhine-Westphalia, the investigators recently managed to smash a call center in connection with a 42-year-old main suspect. The gang had acted from Herne and committed countless frauds, especially against people living in Poland. The close cooperation between the German and Polish authorities shows initial success in the fight against these international machinations.
