Blue Algae alarm on Lake Tegel: Caution of cloudy water and algae carpets
cloudy water, dead fish and bluish algae carpets that reach to the shore-the Tegeler See is again affected by a blue-green algae infestation. Experts in particular warn children and dogs against avoiding plant residues or water areas that are green or streaks.
The Tegeler See, as the second largest Berlin waters, is regularly checked and the water is prepared. Nevertheless, according to Benjamin Ciupek from the State Office for Health and Social Affairs, the relevant areas will be rehearsed again next Monday and all parameters are checked. However, there has been no bathing ban.
With increasing temperatures, the situation is expected to tighten. In addition to the blue algae in Lake Tegeler, there are also gold algae in Oder and Zerkaria in Schlachtensee, explains Janna Einöder from the Berlin Nature Conservation Association. The environmentalists therefore appeal to the population of being careful and reporting sightings of blue algae or other types of algae as soon as possible
The experts in particular recommend children and dogs to avoid contact with the dirty water in order to prevent possible diseases or poisoning. Adults should also be careful and inform the health authorities in suspicious observations.
The Tegeler See offers a popular recovery for Berliners and tourists due to its size and location in nature. In order to improve the water quality in the long term and prevent such algae flowers, extensive measures for renovation and care are necessary. The authorities are working on examining the causes of algae infestation and finding corresponding solutions.
The blue-green algae alarm on Lake Tegel illustrates the importance of careful handling of nature and water. Each individual is called up to contribute to protecting the environment with their mindfulness and a sense of responsibility and maintaining the waters cleanly and healthy.
