BKD opens the new Federal Center in Berlin-Neukölln with prominent support

Inauguration Federal Center BKD in Berlin and the opening of the exhibition

On August 27, 2024 from 5:30 p.m., the Federal Association of the Kleingartenvereine Deutschlands e.V. (BKD) invites you to a special event: the inauguration of its new Federal Center in Berlin-Neukölln. This event is aimed at selected guests from the allotment garden, the municipalities, science and European partner organizations from 12 countries. In the future, the Federal Center will serve as an exhibition center on the future of the allotment gardens, educational and seminar house as well as conference and event location.

The new federal center is located on Hermannstrasse, the place of foundation of the first German umbrella organization RVKD e.V. over 100 years ago. With the election of the location, the association is supposed to locate itself and its member associations in the middle of the city society.

The Federal Center is officially opened with a garden festival on August 27, 2024. In addition to representatives from the allotment garden, Federal Minister Klara Geywitz and the Neukölln district mayor Martin Hikel are also expected.

The new building was built in innovative and sustainable timber construction and is considered a pilot project with an exemplary character. It was therefore financed with a 90%federal funding.

From the spring of 2025, the Federal Center will also house a “green classroom” outdoors that welcome school classes and other interested parties.

Exhibition opening of the new permanent exhibition "City | Nature | Mensch"

At the same time as the inauguration of the Federal Center, the newly created exhibition “City | Nature | Mensch” opens. The history, meaning and future of the allotment garden are discussed on approx. 160 sqm of exhibition space. Visitors to all ages are cordially invited to explore the exhibition and learn the exhibits with all their senses.

European conference "Allotment gardens in Europe: green for everyone"

The BKD is a member of the international umbrella organization of the European allotment garden and will host the international specialist congress this year. From 26-29.08.2024, representatives of the European partner organizations as well as guests from politics, local and state administration and science in the new federal center come together to exchange ideas about topics such as climate change, urban planning and biodiversity.

This international congress takes place for the 39th time and is intended to promote international scientific discourse.
