District office Spandau: Climate objectives for a sustainable future

Spandau is breaking new ground for climate protection: 20 key goals of the district office decided

The district office Spandau made a pioneering decision on July 2nd, 2024 to lead the district on the way to a climate -neutral and climate silver Spandau. In an extensive participation process, a total of 20 climate objectives were developed that cover various areas such as CO2-neutral administration, energy, urban development, mobility, procurement, provision of employees, consumption & society and adaptation to the consequences of climate change.

The decision of these climate objectives marks an important milestone for Spandau on the way to greenhouse gas neutrality by 2045. Since mid-2023, Spandau has been working intensively on an integrated climate protection and climate adjustment concept, which is fully financed by the national climate protection initiative. The key objectives offer a clear orientation for the future work of the district administration and should ensure that all plans and decisions meet the goals of the climate protection concept.

District Mayor Frank Werwig emphasized the importance of participating all levels of the district office in the development of the climate objectives. He sees the goals as crucial for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the future-proof orientation of the district. Dr. Carola Brückner, district councilor for education, culture, sport and facility management, emphasized that the changeover to a CO2-neutral administration is a central goal and have already been implemented measures such as energy renovations and the switch to LED.

Thorsten Schatz, district councilor for building, planning, environmental and nature conservation, emphasized the importance of sustainable urban development, which does justice to the housing construction destinations of the Senate and at the same time preserves the green quality of life Spandau. It is essential that Spandau acts actively on the challenges of climate change and implementing corresponding concepts.

Due to the adopted climate objectives, Spandau will take a pioneering role in climate protection and shows that sustainable and climate -friendly development is possible at the local level.
