Movement for everyone! Discover new sports offers in Mittes parks!

On June 12, 2025, the district councilor for youth, family and health, Christoph Keller, presented the new places of movement in Berlin-Mitte. The district offers numerous movement elements and sports equipment in public space that help promote the physical fitness of the citizens. Particularly noteworthy is an overview map that helps the residents to find the right places of movement in the district. This card contains a list of the available equipment and photos of the systems.

The offers are aimed at all age groups and include both endurance training and strength training. The establishment of these locations not only has health benefits, but also promotes social exchange between the citizens. According to the health city council, the positive effects of physical activities on health are detectable to old age.

promotion of movement at the federal level

The initiative for promoting movement is also promoted at the federal level. Under the direction of the parliamentary State Secretary Sabine Dittmar, a round table movement and health was launched, which met from October 2022 to August 2023. Numerous interest groups took part in this dialogue, including departments, conferences and scientific institutions from the areas of movement, sports and health.

The result of this process was the publication of a consensus paper, which has the strengthening of movement promotion in Germany. This paper is aimed at all age groups and living environments, which underlines the relevance of a comprehensive approach. Important results of the round table will be presented on March 12, 2024 during the second movement summit. The implementation process of the agreed measures is accompanied by the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) and evaluated by 2025.

research and development of health projects

Another aspect of movement promotion is emphasized by the “Geh-Sundheitpfad” project, which was initiated by the Technical University of Dresden and was carried out from June 2019 to May 2022. The aim was to develop a health promotion route, especially for seniors. This measure is intended to strengthen the promotion of movement and improve health and environmental competence.

By developing and implementing the "walking path" in a Dresden district, existing offers are tied to actively get the participants in motion. The evaluation of these projects shows that the design of such health promotion measures in particular is decisive in order to increase physical activity in the older population.
