Drunk man dies in Berlin's Friedrichshain district after the police operation
A 39-year-old man died on Tuesday after a police operation in Stralauer Allee in Friedrichshain. The incident occurred around 12.40 p.m. when the police were called to a shop where the man is said to have rioted and molested people. Then he went to a construction site and entered a construction container there. He behaved confused and threw the bag of a witness into the Spree, as the Berlin police announced on Wednesday.
Because of his violent behavior, the man was brought to the ground by the emergency services and tied up. However, the officials had to solve the bonds immediately because the man complained about shortness of breath. The police officers provided first aid and alerted an emergency doctor who started resuscitation. Despite the efforts, the 39-year-old died in the hospital.
According to his own statements, the man was under the influence of drugs and had consumed heroin and ecstasy, the police reported. So far there is no evidence of punishable behavior of the officials involved.
The tragic incident again shows the challenges that the police and emergency services face. The Berlin fire brigade has been very overloaded for a long time, so that the state of emergency has to be proclaimed almost daily. The emergency services are under great pressure and still make an important contribution to the safety of the population.
It remains to be seen whether further examinations will provide information about the exact approach of the incident and possible consequences.
