Bernd Riexinger: Sharp criticism of traffic light coalitions climate policy
Politics - Riexinger concerned about steps in climate protection
The member of the Bundestag Bernd Riexinger from the DIE LINKE party expressed his concern for the current developments in climate protection on Saturday in Berlin. According to Riexinger, the traffic light coalition, consisting of SPD, Greens and FDP, not only did not make any progress in climate policy, but even made it any steps back.
Riexinger emphasized that the effects of climate change are becoming increasingly clear and more common. On Friday, severe storms caused considerable damage in many parts of Germany. "In the meantime, the reports about heavy storms, floods and heavy rain have become the rule," said the politician. These events are often associated with injuries or even fatalities and cause damage at the billion dollar height.
A particularly alarming trend is the change between constant rain and dry periods, which is becoming increasingly shorter. Riexinger asked the question: "How many of these damage can society endure if the disasters occur more often?"
The criticism of the member of the Bundestag is also aimed at the current climate protection law, which in his opinion was worsened. He particularly emphasized Baden-Württemberg, where, despite a green prime minister, the climate goals could be missed significantly according to the leading climate researchers.
To cope with the climate crisis, Riexinger calls for a radical change in current politics. He warned: "If you cannot be able to change the gears now radically, the disasters threaten to become even more violent in ten or twenty years." Politics should not only think in short periods of time to cope with the greatest crises of the present. In addition, a strong climate movement is needed that is committed to a fundamental system change.
Riexinger's statements illustrate the urgency with which politics must react to the climate crisis in order to avoid future disasters and to reduce the effects of climate change. These warnings should not be unnoticed because they indicate a global problem that affects us all.
