Berlin's Rufbus dies: East remains in traffic!
In Berlin, passengers in the eastern districts stand in front of a traffic-turn-dilemma: the Senate and the BVG end the MUVA flexible travel system, which was once considered a hopeful for public transport. The Greens vehemently criticize this decision, while BVG boss Henrik Falk refers it as "business disaster". The project will be stopped until the end of February, which meant that many passengers will be left in the snow in the near future. The On-Demand RidePooling project was launched in 2022, but the use remained behind the expectations. In the past few months, only 160 people per day have used the service, while more passengers are necessary for a functioning pool system, as the BVG stated, which led to its dismissal, such as Berliner Zeitung reported.
The BVG plans to revolutionize the future of local transport in the outdoor districts with autonomous minibuses. This could be a completely new form of mobility that, according to Falk, is not possible by 2027 without sufficient test runs. However, Senate and BVG confirm that a second branch of the business, MUVA, remains. From March 2025, this service will not only be active for defects, but will also be available for trips for up to five kilometers. However, this offer is also much less in demand - the question remains whether it can really offer sustainable alternatives under the current conditions. Details for the Muva use are also important to know: A valid VBB-Ticket is required, and the prices vary depending on the route, such as bvg.de.
