Berlin Senate increases the accommodation of refugees in hostels and hotels

according to a report by www.mz.de announced that the accommodation of refugees will be increasingly carried out in hostels and hotels. There are currently 2912 places available, of which about three quarters are already occupied. This number exceeds the original target of 1500 seats, which was determined for the end of the year. The accommodation takes place in contract accommodations with eleven companies and ranges from single rooms to multi -bed rooms that are used by several people.

For Berlin citizens, this means that the accommodation of refugees in the city is still a current topic. The rental of rooms in hostels and hotels is seen as a cheaper alternative to major accommodation. The average daily rate for accommodation in hostels and hotels is currently 57 euros. This is compared to the monthly costs of several millions for the arrival center in Tegel. However, the social administration emphasizes that accommodation in hostels and hotels is only a temporary solution and that in the long term, decentralized accommodation is sought to promote the integration of the refugees. This step should also support the creation of affordable living space for all Berliners in the long term.
