Berlin police under stress: Location, according to Slovik, wage increase required by Dregger.

Even if the situation has become a little quieter, according to the Berlin police president, the overload of the police is still a problem. There are still many criminal proceedings in connection with the protests against the war in the Middle East. The Berlin CDU therefore suggests increasing the wages of the police forces.

position calming despite overload

The Berlin police President Barbara Slovik reports on a certain level of position after the riots in connection with the Gaza War. It had become a little quieter on Berlin's streets, fewer meetings would be registered and there are fewer accumulations from which crimes would be committed. Nevertheless, the police are still very challenged.

prohibition of rallies

According to their own statements, the Berlin police have recently banned almost half of the pro-Palestinian rallies. Since the terrorist attack of Islamist Hamas on Israel on October 7, 35 meetings have been registered or spontaneously carried out, 17 of which were banned.

740 criminal proceedings in connection with the Middle East conflict

The police's strategy is particularly criticized in the Palestinian community. Despite the bans, numerous people have gathered to rallies in the past two weeks, where there were riots and outbreaks of violence. The police currently have more than 740 criminal proceedings in connection with the conflict.
In order to protect Israeli and Jewish institutions, the police use more than 500 civil servants.

Dregger demands wage increase

The domestic spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group in the Berlin House of Representatives, Burkard Dregger, wants to invest more money in the Berlin police. He explains that it is the declared goal of the CDU and SPD to introduce wages to the federal level. Dregger sees the problem that the federal police offer more attractive conditions for recruiting young people.
Dregger also indicates that the police will receive more money due to the current situation than originally planned. Berlin's security and the safety of the emergency services are top priority. If the situation in the Middle East should continue to worsen, support is required by the federal government and the federal states.
