Berlin left -wing demands increase in second home tax to 18% signal to the SPD?
The Berlin left have decided to contribute an application to raise the second home tax. They demand an increase to 18 percent to reach the level of Munich. As a reason, the falling tax revenue is mentioned in Berlin and referred to the fact that second home owners should use the infrastructure and have to be adequately involved in the costs.
The left targets the SPD under pressure by pointing out the doubled second home tax in Munich, in which the Mayor of Munich is an SPD politician. In Berlin, the second home tax rate was last raised in 2019 and the income has been declining since then. In 2022, only a little more than 3 million euros were taken, while it was around 14.5 million euros in previous years. In 2021 there were around 20,300 taxable second apartments in Berlin.
