Berlin club operators complain about increased costs and the lack of guests. How does that fit the record sales of large companies?

According to a report from www.tagesspiegel.de, the event industry is currently in a certain disagreement about its economic situation: While large companies such as Live Nation in the USA or CTS Eventim report record sales in Germany, club operators complain about increased costs and lack of guests. This was discussed at the “City after eight” conference on the RAW site in Friedrichshain, in which the current situation in the industry was highlighted.

In Berlin, ticket prices for concerts have increased by around ten to 15 percent compared to the time before pandemic, while the costs for concert organizers rose by 30 to 40 percent. A club operator reported that numerous employees dated other jobs during the pandemic and decreased the attractiveness of the night work. This emigration leads to a shortage of specialists and an increased negotiating power for event technicians and similar professions.

The artists' charges have also increased, especially for known acts, which means that smaller clubs and concert halls are financially disadvantaged. As a result, the audience may not be able to afford any further events and prefer larger events. These changes in the industry have local effects on Berlin venues and could influence the variety of cultural offers in the city.
