Berlin's left -wing politician is moving to Sahra Wagenknecht's alliance - dispute over mandate possible.

According to a report by t-online.de, the Berlin left-wing member Alexander King has announced his exit from the Left Party and is switching to the newly founded association Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW). King had only moved to the Berlin House of Representatives in June 2023 and is considered a long -time confidante of Sahra Wagenknecht. In an interview with the "Berliner Zeitung", he criticized the party leadership of the left for a lack of self -criticism and gave the BSW a necessary addition to achieve all dissatisfied with the prevailing policy.

Kings's exit affects Berlin politics because he no longer belongs to the Left Group as a member of parliament. The parliamentary group leader of the left, Anne Helm and Carsten Schatz, as well as the deputy state chairman Björn Tilebein regret Kings and ask him to return his mandate. King, on the other hand, has not planned to hand over his mandate and emphasizes that the free mandate is fundamentally protected.

Kings's exit is related to the plans of Sahra Wagenknecht to found a new party. According to its announcement, the association "Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht" should initially collect donations to prepare the foundation of the party in January. The new party is aiming for participation in the European elections in June 2024 and the upcoming state elections.

The change and the establishment of the BSW could lead to a further fragmentation of the left spectrum in Berlin and possibly have an impact on the political landscape of the city. It remains to be seen how many other members of the left will follow the example of Kings and whether the BSW is able to find support and response from the population.
