Berlin versus Amazon: Activists mobilize against the planned move -in of the group in the 142 -meter high East Side Tower in Friedrichshain

Amazon moves into the 142-meter high East Side Tower in Friedrichshain, opposite the Warschauer Straße S-Bahnhof. The exact date is not yet known. The anti-Amazon alliance "Berlin Versus Amazon" has made 14 demands to meet the group before moving into the tower. Among other things, this deals with wage increases, shortened working hours and stopping the monitoring of the employees in the warehouses. The alliance cooperates with the Verdi union and calls for solidarity actions when the Amazon workers go on strike.

The new alliance "Berlin Versus Amazon" was founded after an anti-Amazon alliance with ambitious plans was slowed down by the Corona pandemic. The alliance relies on different political methods, including a satire in which Amazon boss Jeff Bezos responds to the demands. It is emphasized that the video is satirical.

At an event of the alliance, various people gave lectures. Gabriel from FU Berlin reported on the organization of Amazon employees in the USA. Dorothea from the district initiative "We remain all Friedrichshain" emphasized that Amazon is another driver for the displacement of old tenants in the district. She reported on a model from Barcelona, in which Amazon has to pay a delivery of 2 euros for each package delivered. This could also be interesting for Berlin.

The alliance is planning further information events in various Berlin districts and invites you to an open meeting in a district shop on July 31. In October, a music performance is planned near the tower, which also raises the question of whether we all need the objects that deliver Amazon and Co.

It is known that the tower is almost finished, so it is a challenge to fight the tower. Some passers -by asked the question at a rally compared to the tower: Why should I take the street against Amazon when I order my goods there? The alliance wants to use the next few months to build pressure and position itself against the group.
