Berlin increases security measures for departure from Christopher Street Day
The Berlin police strengthen their security measures for this year's Christopher Street Day (CSD). In particular, the focus is on the safety of the participants during the departure after the event. This focus is on the inaugural visit of the new Berlin queer representative Alfonso Pantisano (SPD) with Vice-Police President Marco Langner. Pantisano had already announced in Tagesspiegel to want to address this topic.
In order to ensure security, the emergency services are reinforced and particularly sensitized away from the elevator route. The police are in close contact with the BVG and the federal police in advance and after the event. This serves to ensure the security away from the venue and especially during departure in local public transport (public transport).
According to Pantisano, attacks against queer people are usually carried out on their way home during the CSD. U and S-Bahn stations as well as parks are particularly at risk, in which many people have a drink after the event.
Preparations for police operation at this year's CSD have been running for half a year. Cooperation with the organizing CSD association is described as very well. The association has already announced that a high police force, security companies and around 600 volunteers will provide security on site.
Alfonso Pantisano is pleased that the Berlin police take its clues seriously and reacted accordingly. He thanks for the openness and sensitivity of the security authorities.
It is hoped that the increased security measures help to ensure the protection of participants at this year's Christopher Street Day and to prevent attacks effectively. Because the CSD should be an event in which queer people can celebrate freely and carefree, without fear of discrimination or violence.
