Berlin starts heat protection campaign: tips for hot summer days on the train and pharmacies

stickers in trams and subways give the Berliners advice on how they can behave optimally on hot summer days. The Senate has commissioned the State Office for Health and Social Affairs (LAGESO) to carry out a "heat protection campaign" and thus ensure that the population reacts appropriately to the heat.

The recommendations on the stickers include, for example, wearing airy clothing and drinking enough water. A total of 1,000 stickers were attached to the trams in the subways and 350 stickers. The campaign runs until September 9th and costs a total of 35,960.95 euros net.

The efforts are not only limited to public transport. Each of the 736 pharmacies in Berlin has received 200 postcards with funny motifs and specific tips. The postcards were printed with humorous photos, such as "We Berlin plants need fresh water every day" and "Well protected by summer". On the back of the cards there are concrete information such as "Drink enough water or unsweetened tea. Avoid alcohol" and "Wear a hat, sunglasses and a sunscreen with a high sun protection factor. The costs for the postcards amount to a total of 7,387 euros net.

In addition, 21,000 flyers in different languages (German, Arabic and Ukrainian) were distributed to the district offices. These flyers should in particular achieve the vulnerable groups such as older people, children and chronically ill people. The cost of the flyers is EUR 3,283 net. Overall, the costs of the "heat protection campaign" amount to around 47,000 euros.

The LAGESO initiative has a good reason: heat stresses the body and can lead to dehydration, heat stroke or circulatory failure. Older people, children and chronically ill are particularly at risk. Last year, 416 heat note was reported in Berlin. Strengthening the pension of the population is therefore an important part of the 2030 energy and climate protection program.
