Berlin: Police enforced bans against violence in pro-Palestine demos
The Berlin riot police has been in constant use since October 7th. Since Israel has been covered by an unprecedented wave of terrorism, the Middle East conflict has also been negotiated on Berlin's streets. Especially in the Focus on Neukölln, there are always particularly violent clashes between the police and pro-Palestine demos. The Berlin police enforced several assembly bans on Thursday evening with a massive contingent in Neukölln. The meeting authority had previously prohibited eight planned anti -Israel meetings. Among other things, the police justify their bans with their hazard forecast: the immediate danger that the meetings will lead to anti -Semitic exclamations, glorification of violence and violence. In other German cities, demonstrations were also prohibited on a similar basis.
According to a report by Berliner Zeitung, the bans for the interior expert of the Berlin CDU parliamentary group, Burkard Dregger, are legally constant in court. He argues that violent demonstrations should be banned. The constitutional lawyer Michael Wrase, however, sees these bans at least as problematic. He explains that interventions in freedom of assembly are only permitted if the assembly itself assumes an immediate risk to public order and security.
The domestic spokesman for the left-wing parliamentary group in the Berlin House of Representatives, Niklas Schrader, agrees with this assessment and emphasizes that Israel hatred and anti-Semitic violence must be fought consistently, but general bans are not under the rule of law or reason. They would create language and helplessness in those who want to express their concerns with peaceful intentions.
The Vice President of the German Bundestag, Wolfgang Kubicki (FDP), on the other hand, takes the view that foreigners in Germany can be excluded from political activities. He argues that the freedom of assembly, which is protected by the constitution, is a fundamental right of German and that foreigners cannot fundamentally rely on it. However, Kubicki's advance encounters indignation among the security policy spokeswoman for the Berlin Green Group, Gollaleh Ahmadi. She emphasizes that flat -rate restrictions are prohibited by the Basic Law, but clear limits must be drawn when anti -Semitism is propagated and terror.
In the coming week, numerous demonstrations and protest campaigns in connection with the military discussion of Israel will be expected with Hamas. The Berlin police will continue to be in use.
