Berlin: Tenants in the high -rise building after arson for 105 days without water and heating - property management finally activates measures

After an arson in the basement, the residents of a 13-story high-rise in Gropiusstadt have lived without water and heating for 105 days. The property management of Vonovia/Deutsche Wohnen only became active after the grievances of the B.Z. were uncovered. They promised a 100 percent rent reduction and distributed radiators to the tenants on Wednesday.

The residents felt abandoned by the property management, although shower and toilet containers were set up in front of the building. The repairs were delayed because asbestos were released during the fire and it must first be disposed of properly. Only then can the residents enter the basement.
The property management has now promised that each apartment receives an electric radiator. There was concern that the circuit collapses when all connected devices are operated. Therefore, no additional private devices may be used to ensure the electrical security of the building. Deutsche Wohnen will reimburse the electricity costs for the radiators and grants a 100 percent rent reduction for the months of September and October. Further rent reductions are adapted to the progress of the renovation work. The tenants are relieved and grateful for the support of the B.Z. When uncovering the discounts.
