Berlin: Change of course in refugee policy or mere lip service of the Prime Minister?
Last Friday, the prime ministers of the 16 federal states met in Frankfurt/Main. Then Berlin's Government Mayor Wegner (CDU) reported that a “change of course in refugee policy” was agreed.
On closer inspection, however, it is difficult to actually recognize this change of course. The prime ministers made five claims:
They demanded firstly and, above all, more money from the federal government for the accommodation of migrants. Second, they want to introduce the payment card for asylum seekers that replace the cash. This is to prevent social assistance from being transferred abroad. Third, the prime ministers demand that "the labor market must be opened faster for refugees". Fourthly, the asylum procedures are to be accelerated and the "consistent return of rejected asylum seekers" is required.
This does not look like a change of course, because if you ask for more tax money from the federal government to spend it in the municipalities for migrants, you will remain on the previous asylum course. And if "refugees" are allowed to work during the asylum procedure, it would be a change of course in the wrong direction, because then it will be even more difficult to show and deport them if the notification rejected.
deportations are country matter, so it can also be accelerated by the Berlin Senate. Wegner, however, signed a deportation stop for everyone with the SPD, all over the winter. In Frankfurt, he then asked the other prime ministers the "consistent return of rejected asylum seekers". How does that fit together?
Only the payment card to replace the cash would be an attempt to contain the asylum abuse. But that would not be a change of course.
What Wegner and the other prime ministers did not call for are controls at all German external borders and the rejection of migrants there.
They also did not demand to limit the number of asylum procedures by declaring more states to become safe countries of origin.
Such decisions are torpedoed by the Greens, which are asserted in several federal states.
of a change of course in refugee policy that the Governing Mayor celebrates can therefore no question. It remains with the unlimited influx of asylum seekers from the Middle East, Afghanistan and North Africa, although the prime ministers know that the cities, counties and villages can no longer absorb them.
In Berlin, the tent cities grow on the former airports Tegel Tempelhof. You cannot be a permanent solution, but are made.
Wegner and the Prime Minister have decided that almost everything will continue as before and sell this as a change of course. They deceived the people in the country. That sounds hard, but is true.
