Hanfparade 2024: Participants call for more extensive cannabis legalization
10.08.2024, 3:03 pm
This noon today, the first stoners gathered at the Neptune fountain on Berliner Alexanderplatz in order to raise their voices for a more comprehensive legalization of cannabis. Surprisingly peacefully and exuberant, the atmosphere presented itself when the police counted around 250 participants around 3 p.m. A clear indication of growing awareness of the political aspects of cannabis legislation in Germany.
under the motto "Legalization, but right!" Provides the 28th hemp parade this year to draw attention to the weaknesses of the Cannabis Act, which came into force in April 2024. Although with the new law the private cultivation and consumption of cannabis is allowed under certain requirements, the regulations of the organizers encounter criticism.
The focus is particularly on the demands for functioning cannabis clubs and the design of the so -called pillar 2 of the law, which provides for the establishment of model projects for the submission of cannabis in specialist shops. Currently, only cannabis clubs are accessible to consumers, where you have to become a member to legally obtain cannabis. These requirements could keep many potential users away from legal delivery.
The legal regulation allows adults to carry up to 25 grams of cannabis in public under certain conditions and to grow up to three plants in their own living space. Despite this progress, there is concern that current laws are not enough to ensure a safe and comprehensive submission of cannabis for everyone interested.
The need for a national discussion about the legalization and the revision of the applicable laws can be seen in the high number of participants and the unbroken motivation of the demonstrators. The hemp parade thus becomes a platform for a wider social debate that goes beyond cannabis and also appeals to drug policy and health policy.
In the coming years, the responsibility of legislation could decide how Germany deals with questions of drug policy and which measures are taken to adequately take into account the needs of the population.
