Monitoring report Masterplan Solarcity Berlin 2022
Berlin shows ever faster progress in solar expansion. The Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Companies presented the monitoring report Masterplan Solarcity 2022 on Monday and announced that around 3,700 new photovoltaic systems with a total output of 32.9 megawatt peak were installed in the capital in 2022. This corresponds to an increase of around 26 percent compared to the previous year, which set a new record. The Marzahn-Hellersdorf district is the leader in the expansion with 653 facilities and an output of 6 MWP. Despite these positive developments, there is still a lot to do.
So far,has only used a fraction of his solar potential. The district's ranking shows that Marzahn-Hellersdorf takes first place with 6.3 percent, followed by Treptow-Köpenick with 4.3 percent and Lichtenberg with 4.2 percent. Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf is in the bottom with only 1.5 percent.
According to the Masterplan Solarcity, the proportion of solar energy in the Berlin Strom Mix is to increase to 25 percent by 2035. This is currently only 3.5 percent. In order to achieve the goal, an installed total output of 4,400 MWP is required. For this, many other single and two-family houses, apartment buildings, public buildings as well as industrial and commercial buildings with solar modules have to be equipped. The majority of the photovoltaic systems are currently located on private houses, followed by the Berlin economy and the state of Berlin, including schools and office buildings. The state of Berlin has so far exhausted its expansion potential with 5.9 percent, followed by private individuals (3.5 percent), the federal government (2.4 percent) and companies and cooperatives (2.2 percent).
The monitoring report emphasizes that additional solar support programs, measures to extract specialists in the solar sector and the expansion of the "Solarcity Network" are important levers in order to accelerate the expansion. In the "Solarcity Network", companies and initiatives commit to concrete expansion goals and play an active role in the solar turn.
The positive trend continues. According to the current figures from the Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Companies, Berlin again recorded a significant increase in solar systems in the first half of 2023. Within six months, 4,863 new solar systems with an output of around 32 megawatt peak were connected. There are more than 20,000 solar systems in the city for the first time.
The monitoring report Masterplan Solarcity 2022 provides important information and clearly shows that Berlin makes great progress in solar expansion. In order to achieve the goals set, further efforts are required, among other things through additional solar funding programs and the expansion of the "Solarcity network". The expansion of solar energy is an important step for sustainable and environmentally friendly energy supply in Berlin.
