Popular bike route in Berlin in the Grunewald is blocked for construction work on weekdays
Popular cycle path in the Grunewald closed
From Monday, July 31, cyclists and pedestrians in the Grunewald have to prepare for disabilities. The popular crown princess route will be closed between the Hüttenweg and the Havelchaussee Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The reason for the blocking is the construction of a new main line of drinking water by the Berlin water operations. The line is four kilometers long and 80 centimeters thick. Due to the use of heavy machines, it is necessary to temporarily close the crown princess.
A detour was set up for cyclists, which leads over the streets on Schlachtensee, Quermatenweg, Onkel-Tom-Straße and Hüttenweg. However, the recommended bypass is significantly longer and not optimally suitable for cycling. Wheelchair users also have difficulty using the alternative route.
On weekends and after 6 p.m. it is possible to bypass the construction site. However, restrictions are also possible. The blocking of the crown princess is expected to continue until December 21, 2024.
For cyclists and pedestrians, the blocking of the popular bike path in the Grunewald means a significant restriction. But the construction of the new drinking water pipe is necessary to ensure safe supply of drinking water in Berlin. During the construction phase, cyclists and pedestrians should adhere to the signposted diversions and expect longer travel times.
