Construction work in the Berlin S-Bahn network during the summer vacation

During the summer vacation, Deutsche Bahn (DB) carries out planned construction work in the Berlin S-Bahn network. The work focuses primarily on the northern and eastern outskirts and on individual sections of the ring railway. The S-Bahn according to Birkenwerder and Oranienburg as well as the regional train RB 20 to Oranienburg are also affected.

The planned construction project This summer includes modernizing guiding and security technology as well as the construction of electronic signal boxes. The work is intended to help improve reliability and punctuality in the Berlin S-Bahn network.

In detail, this means the following restrictions in train traffic:

  • S-Bahn line S2 to Birkenwerder: Between Blankenburg and Birkenwerder, train traffic has been interrupted since July 12 to July 14, 2023 at 01:30 a.m. Passengers are asked to switch to replacement traffic by bus already in Pankow-Heinersdorf. The Blankenburg train station is not approached.

  • S-Bahn lines S1 and S8 to Birkenwerder and Oranienburg: Between Frohnau/Blankenburg and Birkenwerder/Oranienburg, train traffic is interrupted by August 14, 2023 at around 1:30 a.m. Replacements were set up by buses. The bus S8 drives from Pankow-Heinersdorf to Birkenwerder (without stopping in Blankenburg), the bus S1X runs from Oranienburg to Frohnau (without a stop in Hohen Neuendorf, Birkenwerder and Borgsdorf) and the bus S1a drives from Oranienburg to Frohnau

  • Regional railway line RB 20 to Oranienburg: By September 7, 2023 at 6 p.m., the trains of the RB 20 line do not hold in Birkenwerder. As a replacement, buses run between Birkenwerder and Hohen Neuendorf West and the S-Bahn in the Berlin area. However, it should be noted that from July 13th to August 4th and from September 7th to September 7th, no replacement traffic with the S-Bahn is possible.
