Station mission at the zoo open again: A warm place for homeless and needy in Berlin
The reopening of the station mission at Zoo
The station mission at the Zoo in Berlin had to close its rooms in spring 2020 due to the pandemic measures. As a result, the guests had no protection against rain and no place to warm up. Well, just in time for the start of the cold aid, the station mission is open again. Gabi (67), who has been working in the facility on a voluntary basis for a year, welcomed guests again.
Deacon and Head of Department Michael Kraft (40) and the new head of the Sünje Hansen (28) facility opened the heavy glass door and asked the first guests to warm. The homeless Igor (47) from Slovenia and Vladimir from Serbia were among the first to take a seat at one of the six large tables. They live from collecting bottles and could hardly believe their luck. Michael (54), who has stranded on his way to Oberhausen in Berlin and has lost all of his things, is happy about the help he receives in the station mission.
The station mission now offers 30 places in the facility hall, as well as a small table for advice. It is always open from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. In addition, there are other food expenses at the window before and after these times. 10 volunteers were on duty on the opening day to prepare food and drinks, let guests in and maintain contact with people. The reopening was a successful comeback for the poorest in the city.

The reopening of the station mission at the Berlin Zoo again offers an important retreat for homeless people. You will not only receive food and drinks, but also advice and a place to warm up. The volunteers do an important job and help those in need. The station mission is a valuable facility in the city, which, through its reopening, makes a major contribution to supporting the poorest and expresses the warm heart of Berlin.
