Railway construction site chaos: Hamburg-Berlin route closed again for months!

Deutsche Bahn successfully completed the construction work on the Hamburg - Berlin express track! Since August 16, 2024, over 74 kilometers of tracks have been renewed and 100 soft replaced. These maintenance measures were necessary to meet the high traffic volume between two of the largest cities in Germany. Thanks to these steps, the 30,000 passengers who use the route every day can look forward to returning to normal travel times, such as Deutschebahn.com reported.

From December 15, 2024, the trains can drive again in the usual clock between Hamburg and Berlin and the annoying diversions belong to the past. Nevertheless, this short -term relaxation will only be temporary. As early as August 1, 2025, a complete lock of the route is planned for 9 months, since extensive general renovation must take place. This leads to further diversions and restrictions for the commuters, as from berlin-live.de

planned general renovation and their importance

The upcoming renovation work is comprehensive and are aimed at rail technology, soft and overhead lines. In addition, the train stations should be modernized in order to offer travelers a better experience. The aim is to increase the quality and reliability of rail traffic and thus meet the requirements for the transport infrastructure.
