Auracast ™ Broadcasting: Hearing acousticians as a pioneer for networking in public space - GN Hearing and ampetonic

hearing acousticians in Germany, Austria and Switzerland could be the pioneers for the introduction of the new Bluetooth Low Energy Standard (LE) audio in public spaces. This is supported by GN Hearing and ampetronic, a global technology leader for Auracast streaming in public space. Auracast enables better audio quality, reduced electricity consumption of 50 percent and a lower latency. It also opens up new opportunities for listening in public space, such as at airports, cinemas or conferences.

Technologically, Auracast is based on the new standard Bluetooth Le Audio, in which a transmitter, similar to a WLAN hotspot, streams to all compatible devices within reach. The user can select an audio stream using the display of his mobile device as desired and availability. During a presentation at the EUHA Congress, visitors could already experience Auracast-capable hearing systems and streamers. The transfer of announcements, lectures or TV sound took place in the best quality in the hearing systems or headphones of the visitors. Auracast was received in the entire Hall 3a of the Nuremberg Messe, over 150 meters.

auracast is developed by the British company ampetronic, which produces particularly powerful streamers for public space. The solutions are aimed at covering large rooms such as exhibition halls with high sound quality. Both ampetronic and GN hearing emphasize that the use of established hearing assistance systems such as induction coil systems, FM and infrared systems is still important. However, Auracast could replace these solutions in perspective. The costs for the Auracast Broadcasting are significantly more moderate compared to FM.

The new standard Bluetooth Le Audio offers an attractive chance for hearing acoustic retailers, especially since auracast-capable hearing systems are already available and many customers are convinced of the advantages. Auracast also opens up the opportunity to expand the hearing care professional's portfolio and to push an attractive additional business. The sale of solutions such as the TV streamer+ is ideal here. In the DACH region, specialized hearing care professionals could also participate in the marketing of auracast-capable solutions for public space.

It is expected that the establishment of the new standard in public space will take at least five years. However, Auracast already offers many advantages for hearing care professionals and their customers. A detailed interview with representatives of GN Hearing and ampetronic was published in the March issue of the journal "Hörakustik".
