Working hours in Dortmund: Men less burdened, women in the upswing

shocking revelations from the Baua working time survey 2023! The latest figures show a significant change in the world of work, especially for men! While the men's weekly working time decreases slightly, women have just an hour more in the office than four years ago. What is behind these changes?

The survey of the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Occupational Medicine (BauA) has brought alarming results to light. Men still worked on average 42.3 hours a week in 2019, but in 2023 it is only 41.4 hours! A decline that does not remain without effects. In women, on the other hand, the average working time only rose minimally from 34.9 hours to 35 hours. But that's not all - the overtime also say a lot: men work less overtime than four years ago, from 3.8 hours to 3.4 hours, while women continue with stable 2.9 hours!

insights into work culture

Interestingly, the numbers show how crucial the rest periods for health are. The Baua study reveals that young people between the ages of 15 and 29 suffer from shortened rest periods-a total of 21 percent complain about it! In contrast, only 14 percent of the older generation (55- to 65-year-olds) report this problem. In addition, it is simply shocking that the younger ones often deal with the weekend work: 40 percent work overtime over the weekend compared to 34 to 36 percent in other age groups. This arouses questions about the compatibility of work and private life!

Health problems are also alarming in this context. An overload from long working hours seems to lead to an increase in nervousness, exhaustion and sleep disorders. At full -time, many more than 48 hours a week work - the consequences are catastrophic: more often about physical and emotional exhaustion. That calls for change!

how is it going?

In the face of the well -known shortage of skilled workers, the future of working hours is being discussed with heated. The Baua survey with a total of 11,199 participants clearly shows where the need for action exists. The upcoming changes in package and politics must now be tackled!
