Anti-Semitism allegations: Ex-moderator reacts to expulsion

The former moderator of the SWR, Helen Fares, commented on Instagram to throw out the public service broadcaster and the allegations of anti-Semitism. In a video that she published together with the Instagram channel "Jewish Voice", she defended herself against the allegations. Fares emphasized that the boycott of products from companies that support Israel was not an act of anti -Semitism. She argued that many Jewish people also support such boycotts to put pressure on the Israeli government and to change their actions.

The former moderator accused the SWR that the broadcaster could not handle the letters and claims that came from the right wing from people and asked for their discharge. She spoke of "right trolls" and mentioned that she received numerous threatening messages that led her to lose her job. The official statement of the SWR said that Helen Fares would no longer moderate the digital dialogue format "Mixtalk" because she had expressed extreme political positions on her private social media account.

The background for the outskirts are located in Fares Instagram posts, in which she called a boycott of products from Israel and recommended an app to identify such goods. Thereupon she was called anti-Semitin by the X-Account "Örr anti-Semitism Watch". The author Hasnain Kazim described her behavior as a modern expression of "does not buy from Jews". The discussion about anti -Semitism and political statements on social media continues to be controversial in public.
