Rush expected: outdoor pool in Kleinmachnow increased lifeguards due to the expected thousands of visitors
The head of the Kiebitzberge municipal outdoor pool in Kleinmachnow, near Berlin, expects a large number of thousands of visitors on the first holiday weekend and therefore strengthens the number of lifeguards. Markus Schmidt, managing director of the outdoor pool, said that there will be long snakes around the door tomorrow. This could lead to an aggressive mood because the visitors want to go into the water immediately. The staff will therefore try to calm conflicts at the door.
On days with a lot of rush, the outdoor pool also uses a private security service. So far there have been no outbreaks of violence or large police operations such as in some other bathrooms in Berlin. However, visitors to the bathroom had to be expelled who did not adhere to the house rules. For example, they jumped into the pool from the long sides, which was a security risk. The outdoor pool does not tolerate such behavior.
According to Schmidt, up to 4000 to 5000 people come to the bathroom in one day, including many families from Berlin. At the weekend he increased the team of lifeguards. Up to 15 lifeguards are used on Saturday, in addition to the swimming masters.
On the situation in Berlin outdoor pools, Schmidt said that it was terrible to have to swim under police protection. He believes that ID control is not a sensible instrument and cannot be implemented.
The state government plans to have an obligation to identify in Berlin outdoor pools. In addition, video surveillance on the entrances and mobile police guards on two outdoor pools in the populated districts of Neukölln and Kreuzberg are planned. However, there are still many questions about the implementation of these safety precautions.
