The young swimmer Anna Maria Börstler from Magdeburg presents herself as an emerging star in German swimming. Only 18 years old, she caused a sensation at the German Championships in Berlin in April this year. With an impressive time of 50 meters back, she not only swam to first place, but also set an age group record. "There has never been an 18-year-old in Germany who was faster than me," she said proudly. These successes could have changed their lives forever.

The way to the German championship
a few years ago, when Anna Maria was presented as a MDR sports ace, the thought of such great success was still far away. During her time in the 8th grade, she trained intensively, nine times a week, and had already been recognized for the young athlete of the year. Her trainer, Stefan Döbler, highlights her skills. It has enormous speed and excellent reaction, which they take off from others. Although Anna is still training nine times a week, the scope has increased to a higher level of performance, supplemented by intensive strength training to improve her quick strength.
Anna Maria's passion for swimming has always been present. Your preference belongs to the sprint. She confidently admits that she finds "everything over 100 meters too long". This clear objective has proven to be crucial for her success, because in sports not only talent, but also the right mindset is essential.

Another exciting step is imminent: In the coming days, she will switch to the U23 training group of SC Magdeburg. This could be a crucial step on their way to the Olympic Games. "I definitely want to go to the Olympics," she says. "This is a dream that I've been having since childhood, and now it feels so close." In particular, training with Olympic champions such as Lukas Mertens and Florian Wellbrock motivates them to further improve their skills.
Although she missed only half a second in qualifying for the Olympic Games in Paris, she already has the next big goal in view: the games in Los Angeles in four years. MDR Saxony-Anhalt will continue to accompany your way and support you on your way.
Anna Maria encourages young talents to apply to the MDR-Sport-Assen. "It was worth it for me at the time," she says. "Each of these initiatives gives you more visibility and many positive experiences that are worth." Her enthusiasm is contagious and it is clear that we will still hear a lot from this talented swimmer.
