Alba Berlin fails again: clear defeat against Real Madrid in Málaga!

Alba Berlin lost their second test match at the “Costa del Sol” tournament in Malaga. The opponent was none other than Real Madrid, the game ended clearly with 65:90 (36:52). Already in the first quarter, Alba fell behind by double digits, which continued throughout the game. Although the team led by coach Israel González was able to show off for a short time in the third quarter, there was still no chance of the outcome. The best scorers for Alba were Boogie Ellis with 13 points and Jack Kayil and Sam Griesel, who each scored 12 points. This was the second defeat in a row for the Berliners, who had previously lost against Unicaja Malaga 76:92. On Friday, September 5th, the team celebrated two wins against Veolia Towers Hamburg and Löwen Braunschweig, but the current test results show that there is still a lot of work ahead of them to be ready for the new season.

The defeat against Unicaja Malaga was a difficult game, especially for Alba. After a close first half score of 48:47, the opponent pulled away decisively in the second half. Boogie Ellis was the standout player on the field, scoring 18 points, supported by Norris Agbakoko who scored 14 points. Captain Martin Hermannsson, who returned after his national team was eliminated, did not play against Malaga.

Preparation and next steps

Alba Berlin will continue to work intensively on the form in the coming weeks. Their next test match will take place on the Sunday after next in the Sömmeringhalle against the Rostock Seawolves. The official start of the season in the Basketball Bundesliga is scheduled for October 3rd, when the Berliners have to play at home against the Gladiators Trier. During these preparations, the team will, among other things, face four Bundesliga competitors and use the games against other teams for season supplies. Intensive training began on August 14th, with a medical check being mandatory for all players by August 10th.

The previous test matches must now be viewed as important lessons. Alba Berlin will have to find out how they can overcome the weaknesses in defense and attack in order to be successful in everyday league life. It will be interesting to see whether these early challenges can be translated into a strong performance for the season, especially given the results from the Costa del Sol tournament.

Overall, Alba Berlin still has a lot of potential to show, and the upcoming test matches could be crucial in preparing the team optimally for the upcoming season.
