Al-Kuds Day in Berlin: 600 demonstrators and 1000 police officers in action!

On March 29, 2025, the Al-Kuds Day took place in Berlin, in which an estimated 600 people took part in three different demonstrations. This annual event is proclaimed by Iran to draw attention to the occupation of East Jerusalem by Israel in 1967. During the demonstrations, the participants wore Palestinian flags and flags from Lebanon and Yemen.

The largest event with around 700 registered participants under the motto "Yemen, Palestine, Lebanon - Peace in the Middle East" had its location opposite the Brandenburg Gate. At Oranienplatz, where up to 300 participants were present, the motto was "Gaza, you will raise yourself". Here was a predominant part of the demonstrators to be assigned to the left-wing activist and anti-Israel spectrum. Controversial groups, as the "Jewish voice" and "Palestine speaks", were also on site. Sliding such as "Children's Murderer Israel" and "Viva, Viva, Palestine" were called, while participants also wore Kufijas.

peaceful conditions despite concerns

The police were present with around 1,000 emergency services in Berlin to monitor the events and prevent possible clashes. Despite previous fears that anti -Semitic slogans or symbols could be seen, the police did not record any special events or arrests, and the demos on Potsdamer Platz and on Oranienplatz were peaceful.

AM Potsdamer Platz took place under the title "Solidarity with Palestine. No arms deliveries to Israel", in which 200 to 300 participants took part. This group was more assigned to the conservative-Islamic spectrum close to the PflP. Durante of the demonstrations occurred between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

counter -demonstrations and public concern

At the same time, a pro-Israeli counter-demonstration took place on the Kurfürstendamm, in which around 300 people took part. This event was supported by the Central Council of Jews in Germany. Josef Schuster, the President of the Central Council, expressed concern about participation in the demos and called for a ban. Historically, some al-Kuds demos had to be prevented in previous years due to outbreaks of violence and anti-Semitic provocations, which led to a particularly attentive use of the police.

Overall, the Al-Kuds Day 2025 in Berlin evidence the tensions and different opinions on the topics of Israel and Palestine as well as the associated political and social currents in Germany. While the participants were able to express their perspectives peacefully, the question of public security and sensitivity in the context of these demonstrations remains an important topic in the future.
