Aggressive man rioted in Steglitz: police injured!

In the early morning hour of June 5, 2025, there was an incident in Steglitz, in which a 45-year-old man injured several police officers. The police were called to Steglitzer Damm at 3:30 a.m. because the man rioted in the back yard of a residential complex. Despite multiple requests to leave the area, he ignored the emergency services and was increasingly aggressive by clinging his fists and asking for physical arguments.

In order to control the unruly man, the officials used a distance electro pulse device (Deig) after prior threat. When he was arrested, the suspect showed an extraordinarily violent resistance by biting a police officer in the ear and injuring two other civil servants. Because of his mental state, the man was accepted into a hospital and housed in the psychiatric department. The policeman, who was injured, had to cede from duty after treatment in the hospital due to his injuries. The investigation into the incident continues, as reported.

Taser inserts in Germany

distance electro pulse devices, also known as Taser, have been part of the police team in Germany since the turn of the millennium. The use of this non-fatal alternative to the pistol is increasingly increasing. According to a survey from 2024, Taser was increasingly used in everyday police life, whereby Taser was drawn in 1348 cases in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2023. Also in other federal states, including Brandenburg, where there were 252 missions, and Bavaria, where 102 missions were recorded, the trend for increased use of distance electro pulse devices, such as nd-aktuell.de reports.

In Berlin and Hamburg, the Taser Use for the regular police is imminent after tests were carried out successfully. The federal police in particular have been in use since November 9, 2020, especially the Taser X2. The newer model, Taser 10, is currently being tested in various inspections. Testing is intended to show the positive effects of these devices, which are classified as aid of physical violence in accordance with an administrative regulation of the Federal Ministry of the Interior and, above all, serve to increase security for emergency services and the general public dpolg-bundenpolizei.de.

This incident in Steglitz once again marks the need and relevance of the use of distance electro pulse devices in the police in order to defuse violent situations and to minimize the risk of both police officers and citizens. In view of the increasing number of violent offenses in Germany, where a total of 12,416 violent offenses were registered in the first half of 2023 alone, the nationwide introduction of these devices is becoming increasingly urgent. However, critics indicate the potential health risks that could be associated with their use.
