AfD Brandenburg: Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution classifies the party as right-wing extremist!

In Brandenburg, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution has classified the AfD as “certainly right-wing extremist”. This was announced on August 14, 2025 by Interior Minister René Wilke and Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution Wilfried Peters. The corresponding report comprises 142 pages and documents that the AfD state party is highly xenophobic and sometimes racist, particularly directed against Muslims. The note represents the basis for upgrading the AfD Brandenburg from a suspected right-wing extremist case to confirmed right-wing extremist efforts. This information was previously published through a leak and has already caused disputes between the Ministry of the Interior and the AfD Brandenburg regarding the publication of the note.

The report was presented at a press conference at 11:30 a.m. in Potsdam and broadcast live by rbb|24. The focus of the discussion was not only the upcoming measures, but also the social effects of this classification. The AfD Brandenburg will comment on this classification in the state parliament in Potsdam on the afternoon of the same day. The report itself documents evidence of anti-constitutional behavior by the AfD from the end of 2023 and in 2024 and refers to numerous critical developments.

Effects of classification

In the new reports on right-wing extremist efforts in Germany, similar classifications were made for the AfD in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. The increase in right-wing extremist potential in Germany is alarming: at the end of 2024, this potential was estimated at 50,250 people, which represents an increase compared to 2023, when it was 40,600 people. Violence-oriented groups among these right-wing extremist groups have also increased - from 14,500 in 2023 to 15,300 in 2024.

Crime statistics also show a significant increase in right-wing extremist criminal and violent crimes. In 2024, the number of such acts rose to 37,835, compared to 25,660 the previous year, an increase of 47.4%. This also includes numerous attacks on asylum accommodation and an increase in anti-Semitic and anti-migrant positions among right-wing extremists who exploit social issues such as the Middle East conflict.

Increase in right-wing extremist activities

The right-wing extremist scene appears to be reacting increasingly aggressively towards social fragmentation and migration. In 2024 there were a large number of right-wing extremist rallies, the central topics of which included asylum, migration and anti-queer sentiment. What is particularly striking is the increase in attacks on the LGBTIQ community, particularly in the context of the Christopher Street Day events.

Another worrying trend is the ongoing mobilization among various right-wing extremist groups, some of which operate completely independently of traditional parties. While the AfD has more than 50,000 members, other groups such as “Die Heimat” and “Freie Sachsen” also continue to be active. These developments not only alarm security experts, but also require decisive action from political institutions.

Nationwide, it can be seen that right-wing extremist efforts are gaining in importance, particularly among the younger generation, such as “Young Alternatives for Germany”. This community is now classified as a confirmed extremist endeavor, indicating that extremist views are also increasingly widespread among young people.

The Office for the Protection of the Constitution will continue to be obliged to closely monitor these developments and take appropriate measures to protect society from extremist influences. The ongoing trend of right-wing extremist ideologies requires decisive action to preserve the basic democratic order in Germany.
