Medical on -call service in Berlin is limited - bottlenecks in the event of emergency care are threatened
The outpatient emergency care in Berlin will be noticeably restricted from December 2023, since the medical on -call duty (ÄBD) may no longer use so -called pool doctors in the future. So far, these doctors have taken over around a third of the layers and thus relieved the regular service. The Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KV) Berlin responded to a judgment of the Federal Social Court, according to which pool doctors have to be social insured instead of working on a fee basis. The KV Berlin cannot manage this additional financial burden. Therefore, only contract doctors will be deployed in the ÄBD from December, from January the eleven emergency service practices will also be affected, which should offer the rescue centers, especially on weekends and on public holidays.
According to a report by www.rbb24.de, the board of KV Berlin warns of massive restrictions on medical on -call duty, especially in the night if the pool doctors were mainly used. Patients who need medical advice or a home visit to the hotline 116117 must therefore expect considerably longer waiting times.
The KV Berlin argues that the additional financial burden by the social security obligation of the pool doctors cannot be managed. The decision to restrict the ÄBD is therefore necessary in order to avert damage from the KV and not to worsen the already precarious financial Situation of the service. KV Berlin calls on politics to clarify the situation promptly and rejects a social security obligation for pool doctors.
Experts fear that the restriction of the KV standby service will overload the emergency rooms of the clinics and the fire brigade's emergency services. It is expected that many patients contact the already heavily used emergency stations if the ÄBD is only available to a limited extent.
