Title: Cycle path at Lützowplatz in Berlin Tiergarten - a Schildbürgerstreich?

Since mid -July, the removal of the well -functioning bike path on Lützowplatz in Berlin Tiergarten has been causing confusion and resentment among residents and cyclists. Readers Norbert Böhmer wrote in an email to the Tagesspiegel: "As residents, we ask ourselves whether this is a shield citizens' prank. The result is now a bumpy asphalt area. Should the cycling not by the usual, bumpy bike paths be weaned here?"

The reason for the removal of the bike path is due to the road traffic regulations. A Tempo 30 zone has been set up at Lützowplatz, and according to Section 45 (1) StVO, bicycle traffic facilities on the road are not allowed in such zones, as the Mitte district office announced. So the bike path had to give way and was converted into a bumpy asphalt area.

This decision is incomprehensible and criticism among residents and cyclists. They feel insufficiently informed and are disappointed with the now difficult conditions for bicycle traffic at Lützowplatz. In addition, the question arises as to why the well -functioning bike path was removed if the loss of parking spaces was not the reason.

The missing alternative for bicycle traffic leads to further discussions and demands for a solution. The bumpy asphalt area on Lützowplatz is not an adequate replacement for the safe bike path that previously existed.

It remains to be seen how the situation on Lützowplatz will continue to be treated and whether bicycle traffic is redesigned in order to meet the needs of cyclists.
