200 years of museum island: A festival of culture and history in Berlin!

Bodestraße 10178 Berlin, Deutschland - On May 30, 2025, the Berlin Museum Island celebrates an important anniversary: ​​the 200th anniversary. Festures on this special occasion begin on Friday and continue over the entire weekend. Organized by the Prussian Cultural Ownership Foundation (SPK), the program includes a variety of cultural highlights, including theater and opera performances as well as concerts of soul and jazz musicians.

A special highlight will be the ceremony on Sunday, June 1st, the world heritage. As part of this special event, the new SPK President Marion Ackermann, Minister of Culture Wolfram Weimer and the independent Berlin cultural senator Sarah Wedl-Wilson will also speak.

The celebrations offer an extensive program that includes almost 70 free tours that provide insights into history, architecture and collections of the museum island. An open-air stage in the Kolonnadenhof is played with performances by Berlin theaters and opera houses. In addition, the concerts of "Patrice" and "Jazzanova" are planned on Friday and Saturday, followed by a DJ night in the event pace "Life on the Island" in the James-Simon gallery.

Visitors can also acquire a day ticket for all six museums in the Museum Island: Altes Museum, New Museum, Old National Gallery, Bode Museum, Pergamon Museum as well as the Panorama and the James Simon Gallery. The price is 14 euros, reduced 7 euros. In addition, free admission can be enjoyed under 18 years.

The Berlin Museum Island is not only an architectural masterpiece, but has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. Every year she attracts around 2.5 million visitors who can admire the five renowned museums and important exhibits such as the Nefertiti, the Pergamon Altar and the Ishtar goal. The history of the Museum Island began building the old museum in 1825 and has since developed into a fascinating ensemble of art, architecture and history.

Exciting events are still planned for the coming months. In addition to the anniversary festivities, the reopening of the colonnaden bar can be expected from this summer. In addition, the celebrations concentrate over a period of five years and include three large special exhibitions that focus on the old museum.
