Repetition election to the Bundestag in Berlin is expected to be in early 2024

The state election manager of Berlin, Stephan Bröchler, hopes that the repetition election to the Bundestag will take place in the capital in early 2024. However, he has so far received no information on this topic. Bröchler emphasized that the Federal Constitutional Court has to decide on the appointment and therefore the ball is not in its field.

In November 2022, the Bundestag decided that due to election breakdowns in 327 of the 2256 constituencies and in 104 of the 1507 postal voting districts in Berlin, the 1507 postal voting districts must be re -elected. The Union faction in the Bundestag, on the other hand, had sued, since it was only sufficient in a small part of the Berlin constituency. It is still unclear whether the Federal Constitutional Court considers a partial or a complete repetition to be appropriate.

Bröchler said that the court will only begin the wording of the judgment after the summer break. The announcement will be made at a later date. The repeat selection must then take place within 60 days. So far there are no specific preparations for an appointment. However, for safety's sake you prepare for a complete choice of repetition.

The newspaper "B.Z." reported that the choice of repetition was imminent in the last autumn days and named November 26th as a possible date. However, this has not yet been officially confirmed. The spokesman for the interior administration, Thilo Cablitz, emphasized that nothing was known about a specific appointment and that it depends on the announcement of the judgment of the Federal Constitutional Court.

Bröchler said that an appointment should not be during the Advent season. A good appointment from the perspective of the state election manager would be from mid -January.

In the elections to the Bundestag and the House of Representatives on September 26, 2021, there were numerous problems and defects in Berlin. There were long waiting times in front of polling stations and false or missing ballot papers were found. Vollades had to close or remained open until well after 6:00 p.m.
