Renaissance of the ABC in Hirschgarten: Cultural scene in Berlin is getting a new meeting point
The traditional ABC in Hirschgarten, which was closed for 11 years, is experiencing an exciting renaissance through the commitment of Köpenickers. The ABC city culture project is supported by Rabenhaus e.V. and the old Möbelfabrik e.V. and supported by various free providers, initiatives and volunteers. GSE gGmbH manages the property and plays an important role in reviving the place in favor of the studio work space program.
Through the generous support of the area fund to the construction project “Former Köpenick freight station” from funds from the Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Living (Outer City II W5), three important projects for the “ABC - concerts and events” team can currently be realized:
1. Young stage: a podium for young art and youth culture to give talented young artists the opportunity to try out.
2. Flexible stage parts: The purchase of flexible stage elements makes the garden and the hall in a variety of ways, also for other local projects.
3. Events for children and families: In autumn, happy garden festivals are planned to establish the ABC as a meeting point for the neighborhood.
In addition to the ABC, the “Wolf & Else” association in the fairytale district and Elsengrund also benefits from the community -oriented area fund, as they organize “3rd Christmas magic” on December 7th on Elsenplatz.
A highlight was the benefit concert with the band Knorkator on June 29, which was sold out and shows how important the ABC is for the Berlin cultural scene. It serves not only as a place of encounter, but also as a symbol of social cohesion and the promotion of art and culture.
