Rheinsberg celebrates CSD: Kraftklub and The Hidden Cameras for diversity!

On Saturday, June 1, 2025, Rheinsberg (Ostprignitz-Ruppin) becomes the setting for the second Christopher Street Day (CSD). This event is intended to set a strong sign of diversity and tolerance in a region that is often shaped by rejection of queer people. The CSD is enriched with appearances by the Canadian indie band The Hidden Cameras and the German band Kraftklub from Chemnitz, both of which stand up for the promotion of an open society and are involved against right-wing extremism. According to rbb24 under the motto "Let us show face for a tolerant and above all a variety of Society ”the CSD becomes a symbolic act for the rights of the LGBTIQ*community.

The first edition of the Rheinsberger CSD took place in spring 2024 and already attracted several hundred participants, despite the challenges with which queer people and refugees are confronted in the region. Actions of right -wing extremists are criticized again and again, which question peaceful coexistence. In the past, the city in particular caused a sensation through tolerance to right ideas. Among other things, the right -wing extremist Daniel Pommerenke is mentioned in this context, who works in the city's tourist information and was active in 2017 at promotions of the Identity Movement.

demonstration train and supporting program

For the CSD on Saturday, a demonstration train through the city center is organized, which begins at 1:30 p.m. at Rheinsberg train station. The train will lead to the triangle area, where a rally with live music, speeches and information stands will take place. Diffus reports that 150 participants are already registered for the demo and that all interested parties from the region are invited. In addition to the musical performances, EU MP Martin Sonneborn (the party) will also be present to express his support for the CSD event.

Despite the preparations, the police will be prepared for "eventualities", but no riots expects. The organizers and the police work closely together to ensure the safety of the participants.

CSD in the context of Germany

The importance of the CSDs in Germany extends beyond large cities. The balance of last year shows that over 140 CSD events took place all over Germany and were actively mobilized by four million people. However, smaller CSDs, especially in rural areas, are often threatened by faults from right -wing extremist groups. As the Tagesschau , these developments accompany the positive openness that several CSDs created, with a shadow of violence. The persistent hatred and violence against the Queere Community are a worrying reality in many regions.

The Rheinsberger CSD, which offers another opportunity to stand up for the rights and visibility of the LGBTIQ*community, will hopefully set a sign of a solidary society and the necessary attention to the challenges with which queer are confronted in rural areas.
