Superlative local recreation area is being built in Reinickendorf
The Reinickendorf district is planning to develop a huge local recreation area on the former airport site Tegel in the coming years. A unique leisure and recreation room will be created on an area of 190 hectares, which is also intended to serve as a protective reserve for flora and fauna. The planning for the central area of the aircraft field was recently presented and includes the preservation of the landingways for sporting activities such as jogging, cycling and skating. In addition, Tiny Forests are to be created along the runways to filter pollutants and fine dust particles.
Special play and sports areas are planned, especially for children and adolescents, as well as the establishment of an environmental education center. The ecological qualification of the Stadtheide is intended to serve as a shelter for animals and plants and at the same time serve as compensation for the construction work of the Urban Tech Republic (UTR) and the Schumacher district. The ordnance clearance is currently still taking place on the site before the implementation of the project can begin. The completion of the local recreation area is planned for 2029.
District City Councilor Korinna Stephan expressed a positive statement about the planning and emphasized the importance of the compensation measures for the construction projects nearby. She emphasized that the consideration of the overall climate effects and the creation of a unique freedom for the citizens of Reinickendorf are of great importance.
The implementation of this project will not only offer the residents of Reinickendorf a new place of relaxation and leisure activities, but also make an important contribution to nature conservation and the preservation of biodiversity in the region. With the combination of leisure use and nature conservation, the local recreation area becomes an important part of the green infrastructure of Berlin.
