Introduction of the digital file in Reinickendorf: Milestone for the digital district administration

In the past few months, the Reinickendorf district office has created the prerequisites for the introduction of a national software solution for digital files in nine pilot areas. This will start shortly in the first organizational units. The digital file enables revision -proof processing and storage of documents as well as efficient digital communication within the district office and soon also between the authorities of Berlin.

The first areas in which the digital files are introduced are the office of the district assembly, the legal office, parts of the organizational and personnel area, the administrative area in the regulatory office and the care office in the Office for Social Affairs. Around 100 employees will initially work with the software. In 2024, the introductory process is gradually expanded to other areas of the authority, a total of around 1,500 IT workstations will be equipped with it.

The introduction of digital acts is essential, according to district mayor Emine Demirbüken-Wegner, in order to meet the increasing demands on efficiency, cooperation, data security and citizens' orientation. It also emphasizes that modern software and hardware equipment increases the attractiveness of the district administration as an employer and enables more flexibility in everyday agency. Initial experiences show that digital acts can efficiently replace lengthy analogous work processes digitally and thus benefit both the citizens and the economy.

Although there is still a need for improvement in the current software solution and the scanning process at the state level, the Reinickendorf district office considers the path taken as correct and without alternative. Only through the experiences gained in the pilot phase can the software be adapted and further developed according to the needs. However, the optimal integration of digital acts requires patience and is continuously driven.
