RBB Queer presented: Blue Jean - a moving film series about the queer life in England of the 1980s
rbb queer will show big cinema
from July 18thThe RBB television will be presenting a new film series called RBB Queer from July 18. This series is dedicated to touching love stories, thrilling coming-of-age films and moving portraits of outsiders: inside. A total of seven queer films are shown on Thursdays at 11:30 p.m., including five German first broadcasts. All films are then available for 30 days in the ARD media library.
A highlight of the series is the award -winning debut film “Blue Jean” by Georgia Oakley. The film tells the story of a young teacher who experiences difficult coming out in conservative England in the late 1980s. At a time when political decisions severely restrict lesbians and gays, "Blue Jean" also shows the resistant power of a queer community that forms against Margaret Thatcher's policy. The film is shown as a German first broadcast on July 18 at 11:35 p.m. on RBB television.
Content of the film:
"Blue Jean" played in England in 1988. Sports teacher Jean leads a double life because, due to a homophobic law of Margaret Thatcher, she could lose her job if someone finds out that she is lesbian. Your partner VIC supports you, however, wants Jean to be braver. Together they immerse themselves in the queer nightlife at the weekend. When Jean meets one of her students in a lesbian bar, she has to make a difficult decision.
"Blue Jean" won the audience award of the "Giornate Degli Author" section at his world premiere in Venice in 2022. The impressive film was also nominated in thirteen categories at the British Independent Film Awards 2022, including four times, including as a "Best Liastic actress" for Rosy McEwen.
